AS3MT recombinant protein
Description: AS3MT Human Recombinant produced in E Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 399 amino acids (1-375 a.a.) and having a molecular mass of 44.3kDa.AS3MT is fused to a 24 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.
Introduction: Arsenic Methyltransferase (AS3MT) catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine (AdoMet) to trivalent arsenical and may have a role in arsenic metabolism. AS3MT methylates arsenite to produce methylarsonate, Me-AsO3H2, which is reduced by methylarsonate reductase to methylarsonite, Me-As(OH)2. Methylarsonite which is also a substrate, is transformed into the much less toxic complex dimethylarsinate (cacodylate), Me2As(O)-OH.

NCBI Summary for AS3MT
AS3MT catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine (AdoMet) to trivalent arsenical and may play a role in arsenic metabolism (Lin et al., 2002 [PubMed 11790780]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]
UniProt Comments for AS3MT
AS3MT: Catalyzes the transfer of a methyl group from AdoMet to trivalent arsenicals producing methylated and dimethylated arsenicals. It methylates arsenite to form methylarsonate, Me- AsO(3)H(2), which is reduced by methylarsonate reductase to methylarsonite, Me-As(OH)2. Methylarsonite is also a substrate and it is converted into the much less toxic compound dimethylarsinate (cacodylate), Me(2)As(O)-OH. Belongs to the methyltransferase superfamily.
Protein type: Methyltransferase; Mitochondrial; EC 2.1.1.137
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 10q24.32
Cellular Component: mitochondrion; cytoplasm; cytosol
Molecular Function: arsenite methyltransferase activity; methylarsonite methyltransferase activity; S-adenosylmethionine-dependent methyltransferase activity
Biological Process: methylation; arsonoacetate metabolic process; toxin metabolic process
Research Articles on AS3MT
1. Two SNPs, AS3MT 12390 (rs3740393) and 14458 (rs11191439) were consistently related to arsenic methylation regardless of the populations examined for the analysis.
