The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing AMYLIN. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS018071 kit is based on AMYLIN antibody-AMYLIN antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect AMYLIN antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, AMYLIN. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

Islet, or insulinoma, amyloid polypeptide is commonly found in pancreatic islets of patients suffering diabetes mellitus type II, or harboring an insulinoma. While the association of amylin with the development of type II diabetes has been known for some time, a direct causative role for amylin has been harder to establish. Studies suggest that amylin, like the related beta-amyloid (Abeta) associated with Alzheimer's disease, can induce apoptotic cell-death in particular cultured cells, an effect that may be relevant to the development of type II diabetes.
