Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degree C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot and store at -20 degree C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Small volumes of BTC recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

Betacellulin (BTC) is a widely expressed EGF-related polypeptide growth factor, proteolytically processed into a soluble mature form, which acts as a potent inducer of mitosis in vascular smooth muscle cells and retinal pigment epithelial cells. BTC signals through binding to the homodimeric ErbB-1 and ErbB-4 receptors, but also appears to uniquely bind to and activate all known heterodimeric ErbB receptors.

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the EGF family of growth factors. It is synthesized primarily as a transmembrane precursor, which is then processed to mature molecule by proteolytic events. This protein is a ligand for the EGF receptor. [provided by RefSeq]

Function: Potent mitogen for retinal pigment epithelial cells and vascular smooth muscle cells. The effects of betacellulin are probably mediated by the EGF receptor and other related receptors.

Subcellular location: Betacellulin: Secreted › extracellular space. Probetacellulin: Cell membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein.

Tissue specificity: Synthesized in several tissues and tumor cells. Predominantly expressed in pancreas and small intestine. Ref.3
