3D Structure
ModBase 3D Structure for Q9GZX7
Specificity
This item recognises an epitope within the C-terminal region (CT) of Activation-induced cytidine deaminase (AID), a 24kDa homologue of the RNA-editing cytidine deaminase enzyme, APOBEC-1.
Although the molecular mechanisms by which AID acts remain unclear, a growing number of studies reveal a requirement for AID during somatic hypermutation (SHM) and class switch recombination (CSR). These genetic modification events take place within highly specialised B cell germinal centres, during the final maturation stages of B cells, giving rise to high-affinity antibodies which use CSR to switch from IgM to IgG, IgA or IgE isotypes.

Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C or at -20 degree C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
Shelf Life: 18 months from date of despatch.
Other Notes
Small volumes of anti-AID antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for AID
This gene encodes a RNA-editing deaminase that is a member of the cytidine deaminase family. The protein is involved in somatic hypermutation, gene conversion, and class-switch recombination of immunoglobulin genes. Defects in this gene are the cause of autosomal recessive hyper-IgM immunodeficiency syndrome type 2 (HIGM2). [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2009]
UniProt Comments for AID
AID: Single-stranded DNA-specific cytidine deaminase. Involved in somatic hypermutation, gene conversion, and class- switch recombination in B-lymphocytes. Required for several crucial steps of B-cell terminal differentiation necessary for efficient antibody responses. May also play a role in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression by participating in DNA demethylation. Strongly expressed in lymph nodes and tonsils. Belongs to the cytidine and deoxycytidylate deaminase family.
Protein type: EC 3.5.4.38; Hydrolase
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12p13
Cellular Component: cytoplasm; exosome (RNase complex); nucleus
Molecular Function: protein binding; zinc ion binding; ubiquitin protein ligase binding; cytidine deaminase activity
Biological Process: somatic diversification of immunoglobulins; B cell differentiation; somatic hypermutation of immunoglobulin genes; isotype switching; cytidine deamination; mRNA processing

Research Articles on AID
1. data demonstrate that AID is active in CLL in vivo and thus, AID likely contributes to clonal evolution of CLL.
