NCBI Summary for Nphs1
renal protein localized specifically to glomerular capillary walls; may contribute to the development of proteinuria in renal disease [RGD, Feb 2006]
UniProt Comments for Nphs1
Seems to play a role in the development or function of the kidney glomerular filtration barrier. Regulates glomerular vascular permeability. May anchor the podocyte slit diaphragm to the actin cytoskeleton. Plays a role in skeletal muscle formation through regulation of myoblast fusion.
Research Articles on Nphs1
1. Data show that metformin provides some protection against podocyte damage in diabetic rats, which may be related, in part, to its effect in reducing urinary nephrin (Nphs1) excretion as well as improving podocyte nephrin expression.
