NCBI Summary for ERRb
This gene encodes a protein with similarity to the estrogen receptor. Its function is unknown; however, a similar protein in mouse plays an essential role in placental development. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
UniProt Comments for ERRb
ERR2: Nuclear receptor, may regulate ESR1 transcriptional activity. Defects in ESRRB are the cause of deafness autosomal recessive type 35 (DFNB35). DFNB35 is a form of sensorineural hearing loss. Sensorineural deafness results from damage to the neural receptors of the inner ear, the nerve pathways to the brain, or the area of the brain that receives sound information. Belongs to the nuclear hormone receptor family. NR3 subfamily. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: DNA-binding; Nuclear receptor; Transcription factor
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 14q24.3
Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; nucleus
Molecular Function: ligand-dependent nuclear receptor activity; sequence-specific DNA binding; transcription coactivator activity; transcription factor binding
Biological Process: positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; transcription initiation from RNA polymerase II promoter
Disease: Deafness, Autosomal Recessive 35
Research Articles on ERRb
1. The rs1676303 TT (P=0.02) and rs6574293 GG (P=0.04) genotypes of ESRRB were associated with RCD and TMD, respectively.
