NCBI Summary for 5NTC
This gene encodes a hydrolase that serves as an important role in cellular purine metabolism by acting primarily on inosine 5'-monophosphate and other purine nucleotides. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]
UniProt Comments for 5NTC
May have a critical role in the maintenance of a constant composition of intracellular purine/pyrimidine nucleotides in cooperation with other nucleotidases. Preferentially hydrolyzes inosine 5'-monophosphate (IMP) and other purine nucleotides.
Research Articles on 5NTC
1. Using data from a large-scale genome-wide association study of schizophrenia, study identified several potentially functional variants relating to miRNA function with our top finding being a schizophrenia protective allele that disrupts miR-206s binding to NT5C2 thus leading to increased expression of this gene.
